Community Service

In 2009, I created Philadthropy as a way to allow students to give back to their community by using the skills they were learning in the classroom.

This 25-hour overnight non-profit event hosted at the UM School of Communication, brings students, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals together to create fully-integrated campaigns for non-profit organizations in the South Florida region.

Philadthropy has served over 100 non-profit organizations in the ten years it ran receiving on average 200 applications per year.

Philadthropy was designed to teach students about the joy and value of participating in community service, while putting their classroom skills to the test.

The annual event kicks off with a luncheon that educates all volunteers and participants about the non-profits we have chosen to serve, and concludes with team presentations for each of those clients. Every client leaves with a fully executed campaign and plan that they were free to utilize in any way they chose.

Philadthropy grew to become the the largest non-profit event held on the University of Miami campus.

Each project team is set up with alumni and industry professionals to lead a group of students comprised of various disciplines. They are briefed by the client on Day 1 and then work through the night to create a presentation to pitch back to them on Day 2.

The happy tears and endless hugs at the end of the event say it all.

On our 10th anniversary, we focused on our energy on the MSD high school school shootings, which was also the one year anniversary of this tragic event. The work displayed below was some of the projects that came from this event.

Some examples of work done in previous years

In addition to the work done for the client, each year I work with a group of students to create a fully-integrated campaign to promote the event, encourage applicants to sign up, and solicit sponsorships - includes print, email, posters, tshirts, event swag and more.
